4th Saturday Workshops

SATURDAY NOVEMBER  23
11:30 – 2:30 PM
Cover-to-Cover: Taking Altered Books to Another Level
with Renee Richetts

Altered books are a genre of mixed-media sculpture that changes a book from its original form, converting its shape and often changing its meaning.

Using recycled hard-cover books, acrylics, plastics and hand-made art paper, attendees will create an altered book sculpture worthy of display in your local book arts exhibition.

Techniques we will practice:

  • How to pick the hard-cover book
  • Hard-cover binding
  • Cut-aways and folds to create the 3-D effect you want
  • Covering or adding text to frame your narrative
  • Making accordion fold pull-out pages
  • Adding pockets and inserts

Renée Richetts  is a California artist who works at her studios in Southern California and Chicago. She has over 30 years teaching experience in the U.S. and Europe. She is a huge fan of all things science-fiction related, and brings a sense of fun and generosity to all her classes.

$45 for EAP members/$50 for non-members. $10 materials fee

*Note that this workshop is 3 hours, and space is limited to 5 attendees.

All tools and supplies will be provided.

SATURDAY  January  23
11:30 – 2:30 PM
Amazing Mashups: People
with Lisa Bebi

Lisa will open the 2020 4th Saturday workshop series with a crazy creative, some might even say random approach to collage. Each attendee will receive an envelope loaded with images, including a human face.

All other materials and tools will also be provided.

Techniques you will tackle:

  • Combining “junk” paper for a unique background

  • Creating texture

  • What makes the mashup visually “pop”, what makes it subtle

  • How much is too much: when and how to edit.

Lisa is a contemporary fine artist with extensive teaching experience in the U.S. and Europe. In her own paintings, she draws inspiration from early American contemporary artists and pop culture. Her teaching style is engaging, well-paced and fun. Lisa’s workshops always fill up. Reserve early to assure yourself a place
